André Gouzes

André Gouze was born in 1943 in Brusque (South Aveyron) not far from the Abbey Sylvanès.

Brother of the Dominican Province of Toulouse, ordained in 1974, liturgist and music composer, he played a significant role in the liturgical renewal of Vatican II. His major musical work, known as "Choir Liturgy of the People of God"-composed on texts written by the Brothers Daniel Bourgeois and Jean-Philippe Revel, apostolic monks of the Saint-Jean-de-Malte to Aix en-Provence is a unique in the history of Christian liturgy : liturgical a body of more than 3,000 pages, in English (translated and adapted into several European languages and Japanese), covering all liturgical seasons: Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter Time, ... Ordinary Time, Sundays and holidays. This work is characterized by its sources of inspiration to the great tradition of the undivided church both in terms of musical composition as that of the texts sung very steeped in the biblical and patristic thought.

In 1975, André Gouze moved to Abbey Sylvanès and began restoration of this jewel Cistercian to abandon the last two centuries. It creates a center for studies and training liturgical today that radiates throughout France and Europe.
